1. Terms and Definitions

Elastic potential energy is the energy of stretched or compressed objects. Gravitational energy is potential energy that depends on the height of where the object is suspended or resting. Chemical energy is the energy held in bonds that holds atoms together in molocules. Chemical energy is released during a chemical reaction. Electrical energy is energy that has to do with the movement of charged particles. Heat energy is energy that has to do with the motion of atoms and molocules
Internal energy is the temperature of an object which is the total of the potential and kinetic energies of its particles. Kinetic energy is the energy of movement. Mechanical energy is the measure of the amount of work an object can do. Nuclear energy is the energy in the nucleus of an atom released when a large nucleus breaks down into smaller nuclei. Potential energy is the energy stored within a system because of its position or state. Radiant energy is energy in the form of heat or light. 2. All About Energy

Energy is the ability to do work or cause change. Work is done when a force moves an object through a distance. When an object or living thing does work on another object, some of its energy is transferred to that object. In this case, work can be considerred as the transfer of energy. If the transfer of energy is work, then power is the rate at which energy is transferred, or the amount of energy transferred in a unit of time. (Jones, T.Griffith. Science Explorer. Potential energy comes in forms that are stored including chemical, gravitational, mechanical, and nuclear. Kinetic energy forms are doing work like electrical, heat, light, motion, and sound.(paul, fleisher. matter and energy. 2002. Print.) Energy is found in different forms including light, heat, chemical, and motion. There are many forms of energy, but they can all be put into two categories which are potential and kinetic. Scientists define energy as the ability to do work. Modern life is possible because we have learned how to change energy from one form to another and use it to do work for us and to live more comfortably. Solar panels use energy they take from the suns light rays and turn it into energy for your appliances to use. The diagram below shows this cycle.

3. Forms of Energy

Mechanical energy is the energy associated with the position and motion of an object. An objects mechanical energy is a combonation of its potential and kinetic energy so you find it by adding the kinetic and potential energies. Mechanical energy= Kinetic energy + Potential energy. An object with mechanical energy can do work on another object. Forms of energy assciated with the particles of an object include thermal energy, electrical energy, chemical energy, nuclear energy, and electromagnetic energy.
